#FunFriday: Donald Trump “Wrong” Parody Video
How many of you tuned in to watch the first Presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump? At RIOT, we couldn’t resist diving into what turned out to be a spectacle of contrasts. On one side, a prepared yet seemingly nervous Hillary Clinton; on the other, an unfiltered, loud, and brash Donald Trump, punctuating the debate with verbal interruptions, most notably his repeated refrain of “WRONG!” aimed at Clinton as she delved into her points.
In the days following the debate, social media exploded with parodies, joke videosVideo is a powerful visual medium that combines moving images, sound, and text to convey messages, tell stories, and engage audiences. The Concept
Our ideaAn idea is a thought, concept, or mental image that emerges as a solution, inspiration, or innovation. Ideas form the foundation of creativity and problem-solving, driving progress and sparking new opportunities. was simple: create a seamless loop featuring Trump repeatedly saying “WRONG!”—a video designed to be both hilarious and hypnotic. The goal? To draw viewersAn audience is a group of individuals who receive and engage with a specific message, content, or product. In marketing and creative fields, understanding the audience is critical to crafting resonant and impactful strategies and campaigns. in, keeping them glued for a minute or two, hoping something might change… but it never does. It’s repetitive absurdity at its finest, blending humor, animationAnimation brings still images to life, creating the illusion of movement and telling stories in a visually captivating way. It can be 2D (flat) or 3D (adding depth and dimension)., and audio into a surreal experience.
The Process
The project started with cutting out Donald Trump’s head from debate footage. We used about 24 frames for the animation and then drew vector versions of Trump’s suit to complete the look. Of course, everything is funnier with exaggerated proportions, so we enlarged Trump’s head—because, why not? Once the basics were in place, we got creative:
- Kaleidoscope Effect: We added a kaleidoscopic twist to Trump’s head, with multiple mouths behind him mouthing “WRONG!” in unison.
- Background DesignDesign is the process of creating purposeful and visually appealing solutions to solve problems, convey messages, or enhance experiences. It involves a combination of creativity, technical skill, and strategic thinking.: The tie-dye-inspired background cycles through vibrant colors, shifting from blue to purple, adding to the trippy aesthetic.
With the visuals complete, we turned to the audio. First, we incorporated clips of Hillary Clinton alongside Trump’s constant “WRONG!” interruptions. Then, we composed a seamless, hypnotic beat that loops endlessly. The music creates the illusion that something might change—perhaps a verse building to a chorus—but it never happens. This deliberate choice plays with viewers’ expectations, keeping them engaged as they wait for something new.
The Final Product
What we ended up with is a hilarious, endlessly looping piece designed to entertain, hypnotize, and make you lose a few minutes of your life to its absurdity. The combination of animation, sound, and repetitive humor is pure #FunFriday gold—a showcase of how creative experimentationA/B testing compares two versions of a webpage, ad, or other marketing asset to determine which performs better. It is based on providing slightly different versions of marketing assets. can lead to something uniquely entertaining.
