New York Fashion Creative Agency

RIOT is a fashion creative agency and production studio in New York. For more than a decade we have made the films, campaigns, photography, identities and social content for Coach, Tiffany & Co., Michael Kors, Ray-Ban, Sunglass Hut, Reebok and Macy's, and for the titles that set the agenda: Vogue, Teen Vogue, GQ, Harper's Bazaar, ShopBazaar and BRIDES. The work a fashion brand is seen through, from the runway to the feed. Here is what a fashion creative agency does, how we do it, and the work itself.

Why RIOT for your fashion brand?

Plenty of agencies will pitch a fashion brand. The difference is what you only get here: a creative agency and production studio, a director in the room, and more than a decade of trust from the houses that guard their image most, from Coach to Tiffany, who hand us their collections before anyone else sees them.

We know the calendar

Pre-fall, resort, the show, the holiday window: we have worked to the fashion calendar for more than ten years, and we deliver on it.

We shoot it ourselves

A creative agency and production studio. The idea and the shoot come from the same people, so nothing gets lost between them.

Everything under one roof

Brand strategy, identity and design, creative direction, film, photography, animation, sound, social. We are a creative agency and production studio: no hand-offs, no waiting on a third party for the version you need tomorrow.

The houses trust us

Coach, Tiffany, Michael Kors, Reebok, Sunglass Hut, and the pages of Vogue, GQ and Harper's Bazaar: brands that guard their image hand us their collections. That is the reference.

What does a fashion creative agency do?

A fashion creative agency makes the things a fashion brand is seen through: the campaign, the film, the lookbook, the identity, the social feed, the show. A fashion marketing agency plans and buys where that work runs. We make the work.

Fashion moves at the speed of a season, so the agency has to think in collections and cultural moments, not in quarters. The ideas have to be good enough for the front row and fast enough for the feed, and they have to look like the brand in every frame. That is the job: fashion marketing and fashion branding that come out of one creative vision, made by people who also know how to shoot it.

RIOT is both: a creative agency and production studio. Brand strategy, identity and design, the campaign idea, the shoot, the photography and the cut all come from the same team. We write it, cast it, style it, shoot it and cut it, in New York or wherever the collection is, and we hand the brand a world it can keep working in. Below are the kinds of work we make for fashion brands, how we make them, and the films and campaigns themselves.

How we work with fashion brands

Every fashion campaign starts with the collection and the calendar.
Five steps, from the first conversation to the files in your hands.

The brief

The collection, the season, the audience and what the work has to do. One page, agreed before anyone opens a mood board.

The idea

A creative direction that works everywhere it has to: the campaign, the film, the window, the feed. When it is a rebrand, the mark and the system come with it. We present it as a world, not a deck.

The shoot

Casting, styling, locations, crew, stills and motion from the same set. Our production studio plans it and shoots it, in New York or wherever the collection is.

The cut

Edit, color grade, sound design, music chosen first and licensed properly, titles and motion. Every frame looks like the brand.

The versions

The master, then every cut the channels need: sixty, thirty, fifteen, upright and square, captioned, in 4K, delivered on the season's schedule.

Tell us about your brand

A few lines is enough to start. We read every brief the same day, then set up a call on Zoom or a meeting in person to talk through the collection, the season and what you need. From that conversation we tailor a plan and a bid for your fashion brand.

    Fashion creative agency questions, answered

What does a fashion creative agency do?

It makes the things a fashion brand is seen through: the campaign idea, the film, the photography, the lookbook, the identity, the social content and the show, from one creative direction, so the brand looks like itself everywhere. A fashion marketing agency plans and buys where that work runs. RIOT does the creative and the production, and works alongside your media and PR partners.

What is the difference between a fashion creative agency, a fashion marketing agency and a fashion branding agency?

A fashion branding agency builds the identity: the mark, the voice, the look. A fashion marketing agency plans the channels and spends the budget. A fashion creative agency makes the campaigns, films and content that carry the brand across all of them. We do the first and the third, and we have done both for Coach for more than a decade.

Do you work with luxury fashion brands or streetwear?

Both, and the space between. Tiffany & Co., Cartier, Coach and Michael Kors on one side; Reebok, Sunglass Hut and the street films we made with GQ, Teen Vogue and Vogue on the other. The craft is the same. The brief, the casting and the pace are what change.

What does a fashion campaign cost?

It depends on the shoot more than anything. A film cut from campaign stills and footage you already own is a focused edit. A campaign with casting, styling, locations and a crew is a production, and we scope it to the collection and the channels it has to fill. Send a brief and we come back with a plan and a number within a couple of business days.

Can you shoot our lookbook and our campaign at the same time?

Yes, and we recommend it. One shoot planned for both gives you the campaign film, the stills, the lookbook and a season of social content from the same world, which is how the houses we work with do it.

Do you do fashion branding and identity?

Yes, the whole thing. Brand strategy, the name, the mark, the identity system, packaging, the site, identity in motion and the brand film, as we did for Coachtopia from its first day: the mark, the motion, the campaign and the launch, all from one place. We are a creative agency.

Do you make content for fashion week?

Yes. Teasers for the front row, the show film, backstage and social, delivered the same night when the moment needs it. Coach Spring 2016 at New York Fashion Week is on this page.

Do you run creator and influencer campaigns for fashion brands?

Yes, with a real idea behind them. Reebok's Take A Walk series put Jazz Cartier and Niia on the streets of New York for GQ and Teen Vogue, shot and cut to the brand's standard rather than to a phone's.

Do you do fashion photography as well as film?

Yes. Campaign stills, lookbook and product photography are shot by our studio beside the film, so the stills and the motion share a set, a light and a look, and one shoot day fills the campaign, the site and the feed. We are based in New York and shoot wherever the collection is.

How long does a fashion campaign take?

A campaign from brief to master usually takes four to eight weeks around the shoot. Social content from existing footage can be days. Tell us the date the collection drops and we plan backwards from it.

Can you make social content from the campaign we already shot?

Usually, and it is the fastest work we do. Campaign films, stills and behind the scenes become reels, cutdowns and upright versions in the same world as the campaign. If the footage has gaps, we shoot the shots that are missing.

Which fashion brands and magazines have you worked with?

The houses: Coach, for more than a decade, and Coachtopia from its launch; Tiffany & Co., Cartier, Michael Kors, Reebok, Sunglass Hut, Ray-Ban, Macy's, Neiman Marcus, Material World and Wardrobe, with Harrods and Selfridges through Coach. The titles: Vogue, Teen Vogue, GQ, BRIDES, Harper's Bazaar and ShopBazaar, Harper's shopping sister and a client in its own right. The films are all on this page.
