Once a year Coach gathers the people who run its stores, and in 2025 we handed them the story of how a heritage leather house became a Gen Z icon, written in type that moves as fast as the generation it is about.
SMC is Coach’s Store Manager Conference: the room where the brand stands in front of the people who carry it to customers every day and says, this is where we have been, and this is where we are going. We have been making films for SMC since 2016, and the opening sizzle has become a RIOT tradition (here is our SMC 2022 reel).
The 2025 brief was the biggest story Coach has had to tell in years. A brand that Gen Z once filed under their mother’s closet had become the one they reach for first. Our job was to make two and a half minutes of that feel like a victory lap the whole room had run together.

A manifesto in motion
We built the film as a manifesto. Short, declarative lines land one after another over Coach’s recent campaign films: Purpose over perfection. Realness over rules. The words do not sit on the pictures, they ride them, snapping in on the beat and scattering on the cut, so that the type itself feels like part of the wardrobe.
The middle of the film turns on a single, cheeky edit: My Mother’s Coach becomes My Coach for Gen Z. From there it states what sits at the heart of Expressive Luxury, the courage to be real, and lays out the road ahead as a run of before-and-after pairs, each one flipping on a hard cut.

The results, by the numbers
Then the film flips to proof. Counters roll, headlines stack and the Tabby and the Brooklyn take their bows as the bags of the moment. We animated every number and every press moment in house, from Coachtopia’s Fast Company honour to the Lyst Index, so the good news arrives with the same swagger as the campaign footage around it.

It’s theirs now
The last act hands the microphone over. Creators on TikTok explain, in their own words and their own bedrooms, why Coach is suddenly cool, while headlines from Vogue Business, Business Insider, Bloomberg, Jing Daily and CNBC say the same thing in serif. The point for a room full of store managers was simple: the people they serve every day have taken the story and made it their own.
“It’s not just our story anymore.
It’s theirs.”

Three cuts, one story
The conference cut is driven by music and type. A few weeks earlier we delivered an investor version of the same reel for Tapestry’s Investor Day, which lets voices into the edit: interview audio from CNBC’s report on why Gen Z fell for Coach, and creators on TikTok, all threaded through the same visual language. In November we followed with a Japanese-language version, every title rebuilt in Japanese and every voice subtitled, so the same story could travel globally.
