Reebok: Take A Walk With Niia (Teen Vogue)

In collaboration with Condé Nast, RIOT ventured into the soul of New York to create “Take A Walk”, an episodic series celebrating the artistry and individuality of its subjects. Directed by Chris “MUG5” Maguire, each episode captures the heartbeat of urban style through the lens of its featured talent. In this episode, we walk with Niia, a pop and jazz singer-songwriter whose music flows from deeply personal roots.

“For me, music is so personal,” Niia explains, her words carrying the weight of introspection. “It’s ironic because I’m really shy and don’t love attention or being on stage, elevated, amplified.” These honest moments are what make her artistry unique—authentic, unclassified, and deeply felt.

The journey begins in Niia’s New York City townhouse, where sunlight spills over her piano as melodies and lyrics take shape. Here, she embraces solitude, letting her music reflect her inner thoughts. “I have to be myself,” she admits. “There’s a bit of fear attached to having to be transparent with an audience.” But that transparency is what draws people in, letting her music speak louder than any performance ever could.

Niia explores her creative process in a tranquil garden setting, featured in RIOT’s “Take A Walk” series in collaboration with Condé Nast and Reebok.

As the day unfolds, Niia steps into the vibrant streets of Bedford Stuyvesant, where inspiration lurks around every corner. Passing by iconic spots like Daptone Records, a haven for soul and jazz legends, she feels the echoes of history fueling her creativity. Her connection to her craft becomes evident in every step she takes.

In this bustling city, her Reebok Classic leather kicks become a symbol of comfort and grounding in a place that constantly moves. As Niia’s day takes her from creative solitude to the pulse of Bushwick, the episode transforms into an ode to self-expression and the city’s boundless inspiration.

“For me, just standing still and singing my song with as much feeling as I feel usually works.”
– Niia
