Mark Maguire | Inside The Simulation: Branding & Creative Direction
Mark Maguire is our very own, Chris “MUG5” Maguire’s brother and the pair have been making music together for twenty four years in some form or the other. The brothers have been in numerous bands with each other and released a handful of EP’s, singles and albums together in some form or other.
Mark Maguire is releasing his sophomore album titled “Inside The Simulation” later in 2017, produced by the pair’s younger brother Jon Maguire. This release won’t feature Chris musically but instead, his work on this release revolves around the Creative Direction & Branding of the record. Chris visualized whilst listening to Mark’s album and the result is a very colorful and space inspired front and back cover, while the CD / Vinyl label image depicts a person that appears to be physically trapped “Inside the Simulation.”
All of the titling, text and logos was inspired by the DOS prompt. This was the first prompt that I as a computer user was able to manipulate and use to my advantage. This was before UNIX and LINUX and there was no better way for us to depict being inside a simulation than having the text feel like a command line operating system. We’ve been chasing sunsets a lot lately and the color scheme is inspired by the rich beauty of a gorgeous sunset, actually taking the color inspiration directly from a photo we took of a sunset in Carmel-by-the-sea in California.
