Video Of The Day: Moderat – Reminder
I fell IN LOVE with this song very quickly. I went from listening to it once, to listening to it during a whole random drive I was on. I had left Downtown LA and was looking for some cool coastal roads to drive on. Highway 1 didn’t let me down going up through Malibu and Ventura and then cutting back through the mountains back to Downtown LA. “Reminder” by Moderat was the first song that came on when I started my drive and I literally kept repeating the song this whole drive. Trust me, it doesn’t get old. I’m even listening to it for the 1,000,000th time as I write this to truly capture the art that is “Reminder.” All of this love and I haven’t gotten to the video yet which takes an already incredible piece of art and makes it even better.
The video is a very slick, video game looking black and white animation. Directed very well and with a clean, crisp look the film depicts a rebellious teenager that slaves away in a dystopian world, harvesting crystals from a vast grey landscape. This sparkling bounty is given as an offering to a tribal deity, who resides in a shrine guarded by sentinels with green glowing masks, where he is constantly under attack from an army of drones. Take a moment to imagine what it would be like to live in that world. Right?!
PFADFINDEREI, Moderat’s long-time creative partner for visual works, came up with the innovative idea of using gaming aesthetic and its production tools to make the experience truly, and uniquely, immersive and invited SEHSUCHT Berlin, to realize the full scope of this ambitious project. Mate Steinforth and the SEHSUCHT Berlin team developed the imaginative, politically charged narrative.
