As part of our ongoing collaboration with Coachtopia, we had the rare opportunity to bring one of their most futuristic innovations to life—an NFC chip embedded in every Coachtopia product. This tiny piece of tech is a gateway into Coachtopia’s circular fashion movement. Coachtopia’s NFC chip serves as a digital passport for every product, allowing users to track its entire lifecycle. In the future, it will reveal the full journey of each item—where it’s been, how it’s been remade, and even the hands it’s passed through. But there was just one problem: most people have no idea what an NFC chip is, or how to activate it. That’s where we came in. The Challenge: Making NFC Tech Simple & Fun We needed to create something that wasn’t just a tutorial, but an experience—an engaging, easy-to-digest, hand-drawn animated film that would make learning about Coachtopia’s NFC chip effortless and entertaining. Read MoreContinuing our partnership with LA Galaxy, we were excited to develop the premiere episode of their monthly Apple TV series, “Galaxy Rise.” This series focuses on enriching the local LA community, promoting inclusivity in sports, and fostering open dialogues for everyone. For the Galaxy Rise project the idea was for us to create the first episode and set the standard of the show in terms of look, feel and vibe and then hand off all created assets to the LA Galaxy internal video team to create the remainder of the episodes for the season. RIOT’s creative team utilized a rich array of clips, featuring influential speakers and community interviews, to craft an episode that resonates with all viewers, particularly the younger, more impressionable audience who can be the real change-makers. Maintaining the visual style from our other LA Galaxy collaboration “The Future is Now” and the opening trailers, we incorporated our distinctive full-screen text animations and dynamic motion graphics. This approach not only ensured stylistic consistency but also heightened the narrative’s energy and impact. Our trailer is the first introduction to LA Galaxy fans for the upcoming season and it’s a rowdy one! As with most derby matches, there’s a lot of rivalry weight riding on the game and we really dialed into this to build up hype for the 2023 season’s first Los Angeles Derby. LA Galaxy left their last game with LAFC feeling robbed and our trailer really sets the scene for what is likely to be a successful victory. We set the tone for the game with a heavily emotional song, slick motion graphics, and appropriate lyrics that narrate the two teams’ history perfectly with lines like “No matter what opposition you bring…” and “we ain’t got no fear.” RIOT creative agency made the decision early on in the creative process that we would open with one goal and that would be the only one we showcased. Read MoreOur first collaboration with LA Galaxy saw us diving deep into the history and archives of the club with the mammoth task of creating a historical journey into LA Galaxy as a team, the results of which are being featured on the MLS official Apple TV channel. With a super tight deadline, we got to work by researching, reading, watching, and ingesting all the content we could to understand what makes LA Galaxy the team it is. Over the course of three days, we downloaded and consumed an entire legacy in a seemingly impossible timeframe. The shining light throughout the footage we saw in the archives and the stories we read online was the energy and loyalty of the fans. As such, we wanted to ensure “The Future Is Now” reflects the fans as a shining light by highlighting them and respecting the importance they play in the club’s legacy.
